Bunion Treatment: Individuals who cannot have surgery

Many conditions, which occur in feet, may actually be relieved without any sort of surgical treatment. However, unluckily, people who have bunions, which results in extreme pain do not have non-surgical procedure. In that case, surgery is much recommended, which usually needs around 6 weeks in a cast, or sometimes a walking boot. However, this depends upon the preference of the surgeon, as well as the procedure that you choose. Many people tend to delay their surgeries, because they have work and family responsibilities. This may render them to give time for recovery. Many people are also not advised to go for surgery, because they have some health problems, or a fear of anesthesia. Those people, who cannot undergo surgery, there are some options available for them to decrease the amount of pain that they may be suffering from. Such treatments will lead to some normal function in your feet.

One of the typical ways that you can take the pain from your feet includes the usage of wider shoes. While such shoes may not be in fashion, it is time to let go off your fashion sense, and buy a shoe, which is wide and comfortable. This will prevent the shoe from rubbing onto your bunion. Hence, you will have to give up on hard leather shoes, along with pointed dress shoes, as well as heels. You will also have to shop in such a store, which has several shoe sizes, especially with regards to width.

There are several companies, which have been making bunion shield, which is simply a padding that runs over the bunion bump. It is able to fit over the toe. It also has a soft pad, which is able to cover the bump. However, this generally does not work in all cases, since it may make the shoes tighter.

The pain that occurs because of bunion is due to the inflammation of the tissues, which surround the joint of the big toe. In that case, your medical health advisor may also be able to prescribe you some medications, which are anti-inflammatory. You can also have some cortisone-like steroids injected into the joint to decrease the pain symptoms. Medications need to be taken daily, however, which may become bothersome for a few people. The use of injections is also temporary, since their effect also wears off.

Sometimes, treatment of this pain may occur, when the main cause of the bunion has been identified. Generally, when there is a fault in the structure of the foot, it leads to instability in the joint. This usually occurs in the presence of flat feet. Hence, the bunion pain may increase with every step that an individual takes. Sometimes, even early intervention is done in the case of an orthotic foot insert, which makes sure that the foot functions normally. As the stability of the foot increases, people would be able to experience some pain relief. Do not buy inserts, which are sold in stores, since they would not be as effective.

For those people, who have been hesitant to go through surgery for the treatment of your bunion surgery, there are some treatment options, which are able to offer you some relief. The bunion would actually not be cured. However, you would see that you would be comfortable enough, so that you can remain active until your surgery is actually performed.
